Marine-Grade Vinyl Hot Tub Covers
Why marine-grade vinyl is the standard material on every Imperium hot tub cover. UV-resistant, mildew-resistant, built to last in Canadian climates.
What Makes Vinyl “Marine-Grade”
Marine-grade vinyl is a heavyweight (typically 28-32 oz) UV-stabilized vinyl originally developed for boat covers and outdoor marine applications. It’s designed to withstand:
- Continuous UV exposure without fading or cracking
- Saltwater and chlorinated water exposure
- Wide temperature swings without becoming brittle
- Mildew and mold growth in humid conditions
For a hot tub cover that sits outside year-round in Canadian weather, these properties are essential.
Why It Matters for Canadian Hot Tubs
A hot tub cover in Canada faces every type of weather: deep cold in winter, intense UV in summer, freeze-thaw cycles, rain, snow, and chlorine vapor from the water below. Marine-grade vinyl handles all of these without breaking down.
Lower-grade vinyl (the kind found on lower-cost covers) often cracks within 2-3 winters as UV breaks down the plasticizers. Marine-grade vinyl typically holds up for 5-8 years before showing significant wear, even in harsh outdoor conditions.
Imperium’s Vinyl Standard
Every Imperium vinyl cover uses heavy-duty marine-grade vinyl as standard. No upgrade fee, no thin economy option. We chose this material because:
- It performs in our climate
- It carries our 3-year warranty without conditions about extreme cold
- It looks better, longer (less fading, no peeling)
We offer it in Black, Charcoal, and Chocolate to match a range of backyard aesthetics.
Vinyl or DuraTex?
We also offer DuraTex as an alternative exterior material. Both are premium-grade and carry the same warranty. The choice comes down to aesthetic preference and small differences in feel. See our vinyl vs DuraTex comparison for the full breakdown.
