How to determine the right replacement hot tub cover size, including standard sizes, how to measure, and what to do if your spa isn’t standard.
Standard Hot Tub Cover Sizes
Most North American spas fall into a small number of standard sizes:
- 82″ x 82″, compact 2-3 person spas
- 84″ x 84″, most common, 4-6 person spas
- 84″ x 91″, rectangular 5-6 person
- 89″ x 89″, mid-large 5-7 person
- 90″ x 90″, large 6-8 person
- 92″ x 92″, large 6-8 person
- 93″ x 93″, extra-large 7-8 person

How to Measure
- Length and width: measure outside-to-outside on the top edge of your spa shell, not the old cover. Round to the nearest inch.
- Corner radius: place a straight edge (ruler, book) against one corner. Measure the gap between the straight edge and the curve. Common radii are 4″, 6″, 8″, and 10″.
- Skirt length: standard is 5″. Measure from the cover edge down to where you want it to end (typically the top of the cabinet or deck).

Common Mistakes
- Measuring the old cover: old covers warp and shrink. Always measure the spa shell.
- Skipping corner radius: wrong corner radius is the #1 fit issue. A 1″ error here means your cover won’t seal properly.
- Not accounting for taper direction: standard 5-to-3 inch means 5″ thick at the edge, 3″ at the peak. The thick edge is the hinge edge.
- Forgetting the strap orientation: straps go on the 4 corners of the lid hinge side and the 4 corners of the front-facing side.
