What Is DuraTex
DuraTex is a premium synthetic outdoor fabric used as an alternative to marine-grade vinyl on hot tub covers. It’s a coated polyester with a textured surface, UV-stabilized and engineered for long-term outdoor exposure.
DuraTex has been used in outdoor furniture, marine, and automotive applications for years. Its key properties:
- Strong UV resistance (similar to marine-grade vinyl)
- Slightly more flexible feel than vinyl
- Textured surface that hides minor scuffs
- Mildew and mold resistant
- Holds color well over time
How It Compares to Vinyl
DuraTex and marine-grade vinyl are both premium materials and both carry our 3-year warranty. Differences:
- Feel: DuraTex has a softer, more textured feel. Vinyl is smoother and slightly stiffer.
- Cold weather: Both perform well. Some users report DuraTex stays slightly more flexible in deep cold.
- Cleaning: Both clean similarly with mild soap and water.
- Appearance: DuraTex looks slightly more matte. Vinyl has a subtle sheen.
