“Heavy-Duty” Should Mean Something
Many hot tub covers are advertised as “heavy-duty,” but the term often means different things depending on who’s using it. For Imperium, heavy-duty means specific construction choices:
- Heavy-weight marine-grade vinyl exterior (or DuraTex equivalent)
- High-density EPS foam core (not the lighter economy density)
- Double-stitched reinforced seams that don’t separate under snow load
- Reinforced lift handles that don’t tear out of the seam
- Four locking safety straps with hardware that holds up to wind
- Full perimeter skirt that traps heat and resists wind lift
Why This Matters in Canadian Climates
Canadian weather puts every component of a hot tub cover under stress:
- Wind: A loose-fitting or under-strapped cover lifts in high winds, eventually tearing handles or hinge seams.
- Snow load: A cover that sags under wet snow stresses the foam core and the perimeter seams.
- Freeze-thaw: Cycles of freeze and thaw stress vinyl flexibility and any moisture trapped in the foam.
- UV: Summer sun degrades vinyl that isn’t UV-stabilized.
